When we look back at family history, we find names on records and dates on certificates. We know our great-grandparents existed. But we don't know how they laughed, or what they worried about, or what their life felt like from the inside.

Still Here changes that.

What you receive

Everything in the kit

A question pack, a companion guide, a vault card, and a time-locked digital archive. One Sunday afternoon. A hundred years.

01
The Question Pack
Beautifully printed questions written to draw out voice, character, and the things that never appear in an official record. Not facts — the person. Designed for children aged 8–12, or for any beloved younger family member.
02
The Companion Guide
Eight chapters covering everything — how to prepare, how to ask the questions, what to do if things get emotional, and how to make sure the recording reaches the people it was made for. Read it the night before.
03
The Vault Card
A physical card carrying your unique vault access code and the details of your recording. Printed on card stock. Kept somewhere safe. The key to everything.
04
The Consent Pack
Plain-language consent forms for all participants — the elder subject, the child, and the parent or guardian. Designed to protect everyone and ensure the recording can be properly archived.
05
The Vault
Secure, permanent digital archive with a time-lock mechanism you control. Upload the recording, name your beneficiaries, set the unlock date. The vault holds it until the time comes.
06
The Preservation Promise
A portion of every kit purchase funds long-term preservation. If Still Here ever changes significantly, your recording transfers to a named institutional archive partner — not a hard drive, and not into nothing.

The process

One Sunday afternoon.
A hundred years.

No specialist equipment. No professional crew. Just a phone, a question pack, and the person you don't want to lose.

1
Prepare
Read the Companion Guide the night before. Talk to the person. Choose a good day — morning usually works better. Find a quiet, well-lit room. Make tea.
2
Record
Prop your phone in landscape mode. Press record. Ask the questions. Follow the person wherever they go. Stop the clock. Most recordings run an hour — some run two.
3
Archive
Upload to your Still Here vault using the code on your vault card. Name your beneficiaries. Set the unlock conditions. The vault takes it from there.
4
Wait
In 25 years — or whenever you chose — the named beneficiaries receive a notification. The vault opens. The voice is still there. Or join us on St Andrew's Day — 30th November — for Still Here Day, when families across Scotland record together.

Why trust us with this

The vault promise

We know what you're thinking. What happens to the recording if the company changes? We've built the answer into the product from the start.

  • Institutional archive backup
Every Still Here vault has a nominated institutional archive partner — such as the National Library of Scotland — where recordings transfer if the project changes significantly. Your recording will never disappear.
  • Preservation fund
A portion of every kit purchase is held in a long-term preservation fund. This funds ongoing storage costs and ensures continuity regardless of commercial conditions.
  • You control the keys
Your vault code is yours. Your beneficiary list is yours. Your unlock conditions are yours. We hold the recording — you hold the decisions.
  • GDPR-compliant by design
All recordings and personal data are handled in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We never share, sell, or use your recording for any purpose beyond preservation.

"The vault opened this morning. I heard my grandmother's voice for the first time in thirty years. She was talking to my mother, who was eight years old. I didn't know any of this had happened."
